Preparing for Oxfam Chelsea Fashion Event

Some cool online fashion shops images:

Preparing for Oxfam Chelsea Fashion Event

"Make Do And Mend" event hosted by Oxfam Chelsea at St Mary’s Church , Marylebone on Saturday 28th November.

Inspired by the WW2 campaign, the event offered visitors an alternative way to get their fashion fix. A selection of many fantastic Oxfam pieces were strutted up the catwalk and then auctioned off. There was also a customising corner, swap shop and many stalls - something for everyone.

Supporting Oxfams work in Haiti. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. It has been plagued by political unrest for most of its history and natural disasters frequently sweep the nation. Over 80 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line & literacy rates stand at just 52 per cent.

To support Oxfam go online or visit a local Oxfam shop

Event organised by Oxfam shop Chelsea, 432 King's Road, Chelsea, London - oxfamshopf8004@oxfam.org.uk Tel: 0207 351 6863

Canadian born David Dixon, enjoys tremendous media acclaim, standing out among his Canadian contemporaries as one of the leaders in fashion design.

In 1995, after an apprenticeship with the world-famous Canadian designer Alfred Sung, Dixon established his own label. He started out at the Toronto Fashion Incubator, a highly respected training ground for up-and-coming new designers, and began manufacturing and wholesaling his own line in 1996. Dixon left the Incubator to launch his own Toronto-based design and production studio, but he remains affiliated with the TFI and sits on its Board as the President.

Today, David Dixon’s designs are sold across Canada and in the United States, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Germany, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Dixon possesses a modernist openness towards emerging design while rejecting the notion of radical change from one fashion trend to another. His innovative designs have won him a following among the elite communities of film and fashion, including: Meg Ryan, Noot Seear, Jeanne Beker, Wendy Crewson, Daria Werbowy, Ashley MacIsaac, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Paul Gross, Catherine O’Hara, Kristin Booth, Ivana Santilli and Katie Holmes.

More recently, Dixon has expanded his successful signature collection, and has partnered with several National and International brands to further the David Dixon label. Collaborations with the highly successful Town Shoes Chain have resulted in a nationally recognized David Dixon shoe line, while partnerships with The Shopping Channel and Mattel International have brought Dixon into other new and exciting arenas.

In 2008, Dixon secured the exclusive licensing rights for Barbie by David Dixon, a ready to wear collection for real women, to be sold across Canada exclusively through The Bay Department Stores. This collaboration with the International Brand Mattel and The Bay is the first of its kind in Canada. Of more recent in 2011, “David Dixon, LITTLE BLACK DRESS,” has been officially launched across Canada through The Bay.

Over the past two years Dixon, known for his attention to detail, integrity of the design process and over all high quality control expectations throughout all divisions of his brand, has expanded his companies marketing and sales strategies and now designs and sells several collections exclusively for the highly popular The Shopping Channel. This has reinforced Dixon’s belief that fashion is not just for the few, but also rather for everyone.

The ever-growing presence of the David Dixon brand will continue to develop in the years to come. Currently the David Dixon Signature Collection can be found at The Bay, Holt Renfrew, Simons, and specialty boutiques across Canada.

Image by Australian National Maritime Museum on The Commons
This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s William J Hall collection. The Hall collection provides an important pictorial record of recreational boating in Sydney Harbour, from the 1890s to the 1930s – from large racing and cruising yachts, to the many and varied skiffs jostling on the harbour, to the new phenomenon of motor boating in the early twentieth century. The collection also includes studio portraits and images of the many spectators and crowds who followed the sailing races.

The Australian National Maritime Museum undertakes research and accepts public comments that enhance the information we hold about images in our collection. If you can identify a person, vessel or landmark, write the details in the Comments box below.

Nice Fashion Top photos

Check out these fashion top images:

2009 UMM Fashion Trashion show (top tier) IMG_6798
fashion top
From the first annual Fashion Trashion show put on by the Studio Art program at University of Minnesota, Morris. The students in the beginning art classes designed and constructed outfits out of trash and recycled materials, and then put on a full runway show with judges, jokes, and way too much fun. They had an enormous SRO turnout - far larger than anyone expected. It was a great end to the day of the Undergraduate Research Symposium day - a wonderful dessert at the end of a rich and varied meal.

Jess Larson asked me to take photos at the event, and in the end I took well over 1,000 photos. I've sifted out the obviously broken ones, and then divided what's left into two groups: the "top tier" (the ones that I thought were better for some mysterious reason; this set) and "the rest".

UMM folks should feel free to use these however they see fit. It would be nice to know when they're being used, however. Thanks.

Thanks to everyone involved for putting on a really tremendous show!
